Committee Minutes Highlights

Complaint received from Cowplain Lost Boys:
A complaint has been received from Cowplain Lost Boys in their match versus Hampshire Rose Roasties regarding Bad Sportsmanship for an individual within the team. The individuals’ name was not mentioned but has since been notified to the committee. No action is taken this time except to remind the Hampshire Rose Roasties that the activities mentioned will not be tolerated and the captain is to remind the team of this. Any subsequent complaint will be treated as a second offence which also carries a fine of £10. A Third offence from the same player will result in the player being removed from the league or in the worst case scenario the team being removed from the league. Keep it friendly and sporting teams please.
Rule Clarification:
No Substitutes exist in this format. All Players who you wish to play MUST be entered in the draw from the outset. If one subsequently does not arrive there are no substitutes allowed and the game will be lost. The draw continues until all players from each team have been named.
Rule Clarification:
Late players. Several teams have had late players. Most teams recognise this happens and allow this to ensure fair play (agreed by both captains). When the player arrives they must play the next game if they have missed theirs in order to get the order back as it was drawn. If all the singles complete and the player has not arrived this is a walk over. Reminder a team MUST have at least 4 players at the venue by 20:30 for both League and Cup competitions.
Rule Clarification:
Singles and Doubles matches are to be played by the date specified but can be played earlier if both sides agree. If for whatever reason the game needs to be played after the date specified this MUST be agreed with the committee. The key is the committee understand when results will be in and if a game is not played by the date specified and the next committee meeting occurs it will be decided by the toss of a coin if the committee were unable to find out the reasons for it not being played. If there is a key reason the committee will decide who goes though.
Fixture list amendments:
Due to the number of teams and entries in the competitions we expect to need to put another round in the calendar which will result in a change of fixtures. Please look out for this on the website and MJ will try to make this apparent to everyone when this has happened.

History

A few notes from Geoff Hayden

I joined the league in 1986, and it was already several years old by then, so it must be approximately 35 years old. Ted Tait was the chairman, but was voted out by a new committee comprising of myself, Dick Williams, Mick Hall, Debbie Toms and Alan Pitt in 1996. Dick stood as chairman for the first year, I took over for 5yrs, followed by a succession of other chairmen after that.
In its hay day of the late 1990's, there were 3 divisions of 10 teams, with over 300 people signing on. We had a presentation night each year, with a DJ, food, raffle etc etc, and it was always well attended.

We've had teams at the Farmers, Craigstone (Mead End), Boarhunt, Hampshire Rose, Brewers, Jubilee, Wellington, Mount William and many more who only lasted for a season or two. We even had a very good ladies team who played at the Fox & Hounds in the 1990's.

In the 80's & 90's we had a Hampshire League team with the league's best players representing MVPL.

The position of Hon. President has been awarded to people who contributed or did something notable for the league. Ted Tait as original chairman, me during my time as chairman, Debbie for over 30 yrs of service, and Steve O'Boyle who was probably the best player the league has ever had, who won everything one season, captained Hampshire, and I believe represented England on one occasion although I stand to be corrected on this point.
The above is open to correction, especially dates , but I hope it is of some use.

Regards to you all.
